Why we don't run a daycare

Doggy Tales has been small-pack trail care in Whistler and Pemberton since 2020 — not a kennel, and not a gig app that sends whoever's free. We've built the business around a hard cap of six dogs per walker on real trails, and around a sitter who's actually met your dog before the first night. A daycare facility runs the opposite way: a room, a rotating headcount, and dogs managed in a group rather than known by name. That's not what we built, so we don't pretend to offer it.

What we offer instead gets to the same place — a dog that's tired, fed and looked after for the day — just outdoors on a trail and in your own home rather than indoors at a facility.

What To Book Instead

The two real alternatives

Stack them together and you get full-day coverage that's directly comparable to a daycare day rate.

Small Pack Off-Leash Walk

Your dog joins a trail walk with up to six dogs total and one certified walker — real exercise and socializing instead of a room.

$44 / walk

In-Home Pet Sitting

A certified sitter comes to your place for feeding, a potty break and company while you're out, on your dog's own routine.

$30 / hour
See Pet Sitting

1 walk ($44) + 3 hours of sitting ($90) = $134 for a full day of exercise, feeding and company — on your dog's own food, bed and schedule.

Who this suits

This combination works best for full-time workers who need their dog looked after during the workday, ski-season visitors who want their dog exercised and fed while they're on the mountain, and remote workers who just need reliable midday coverage without committing to a daycare membership.

Getting Started

How to book

New clients start with a 3-minute check-in and a meet & greet ($50 + GST) so a walker can meet your dog before the first walk or sitting visit. We run Tuesday to Sunday, 8 am to 4 pm, and cover Creekside, the Village, Alpine Meadows, Emerald Estates, White Gold and Cheakamus.

Common Questions

Dog daycare in Whistler, answered

Does Doggy Tales offer dog daycare in Whistler?

No. Doggy Tales has no daycare facility, so there is no room where dogs wait out the day. The closest equivalent is the small-pack off-leash walk, which takes the dog onto the trail with up to five other dogs and a certified walker. For full-day coverage, clients typically combine a walk with a daytime in-home visit, which usually costs less than a daycare day rate.

What's the closest thing to daycare you offer?

A Small Pack Off-Leash Walk ($44, up to six dogs with one walker) paired with an In-Home Pet Sitting visit ($30/hour). The walk covers exercise and socializing on the trail; the sitting visit covers feeding, a potty break and company back at your place. Most full-day coverage is one walk plus two to three hours of sitting.

Is this cheaper than a daycare in Whistler?

Usually, yes. A Small Pack Off-Leash Walk ($44) plus three hours of In-Home Pet Sitting ($30/hour, $90) comes to $134 for a full day of exercise, a potty break every few hours and company at home, which tends to undercut a Whistler daycare day rate while keeping your dog on its own food, bed and routine instead of in a room with a dozen others.

Do you take drop-ins same day?

New clients start with a short intake and a meet & greet ($50 + GST) before any booking, so same-day isn't possible the very first time. Once that's done and your dog's profile is set up in PetPocketbook, booking a walk or sitting visit for the same week is usually straightforward, subject to walker availability.
